Esteem - Electricity from STirling Engine for Entrepreneurs with Mobile phones

As a BSc student I was instructed to study an technologically based subject of my choice - "Decentralised Energy Technology with a focus on Stirling Engines". A 6000 word report was required. Using the knowledge gained from this research, a need was then required. This required some lateral thinking, as normally a designer has the Need first, then finds the solution. Luck stepped in and a TV interview provided the perfect solution. As a Stirling Engine was singularly perfect in its efficiency at recovering low grade waste heat, it seemed appropriate to use the steam from cooking (waste heat) to generate electricity in the Developing World, to charge a mobile phone. A 6000 word design report was then submitted.

The slides here represent the Viva Voce [end of year presentation] summarising the whole project, with some extra slides added since.

The presentation effectively runs from slide 5 to 67, with references thereafter. The design phase starts from slide 28.
