Ethnographic Research
As part of a friend's project on wheelchair design, I offered to be a guinea pig, film my friend and make observations for her ethnographic research. She borrowed a wheelchair and we attempted to replicate how a wheelchair user sees the world and interacts with it. It was certainly revelatory! (Angela fimed me, then I filmed her.)

User testing
As part of "Decentralized Energy Technology with a Focus on Stirling Engines", it was necessary to know
1. the maximum handle size of the Stirling Engine charger itself;
2. the size and type of handles on the accompanying cooking pan,
3. whether users understood how to unconnect and reconnect the Stirling Engine charger to the lid.

Questionnaire Participant Sourcing
As part of my Bicycle Security project, I wanted to gain the opinions of existing bicycle commuters to assess whether official reports were accurate and get informed imformation specific to my project which would then form the basis of my conceptual design work.
I am a keen cyclist and am part of 2 cycling groups in Cardiff, however the members are largely weekend cyclists, who frown upon carrying locks as there will always be someone to stand by a group of bicycles whilst someone else is away from theirs.
In order to get accurate feedback I targeted cyclists who commute to London's Square Mile (and Cardiff for comparison) - the highest and (one of the) lowest thefts per head of population per area. I tagged over 800 bicycles inviting their owners to participate in a questionnaire to aid my project. 10% participated.
