Electric Screwdriver

 

This was a group project [with Matt King] to redesign a household item, to make it more sustainable.

 

The primary aim of the project was to get an initial understanding of Computer Aided Model Making (and manufacturing methods).

 

Our project redesigned an electric screwdriver. Currently such products have internals that last only a few years, at which point the external [plastic] case is thrown away or recycled. By producing the case out of Aluminium then the case is easily recyclable when no longer required and making the unit rechargeable using natural sunlight did away with the need to use mains electricity.
